Fence Lines and Lifetimes

I wanted to share this followup to last week’s column. I wrote and posted this weeks ago, so apparently gratitude has been on my mind. And the getting older.

This summer we pulled a ton of old equipment off the ranch in the name of aesthetics and cleaning up around here. I wasn’t too involved in the process and didn’t know the old combine was going. Rosie didn’t know the hay cradle was going too. We were both sad about seeing the things that sparked our imagination and were a part of the playground and background of our childhoods disappear one day. I didn’t say anything about it. Rosie did.

She’ll never forgive us, she said of the place they liked to play Wild Girls. I would play there too, back in the old days.

So there’s a verse in this song for that feeling. And there’s a verse for watching your parents get older. And there’s a verse about wondering if you’d do anything differently.

Anyway, here it is for you to think on too…
